[F500] sprockets?

Width is the problem. The outside face (flat side) gets turned down. If you go that route, get a small batch of them. I usually go through a sprocket a year due to normal wear. This year, I had the unfortunate luck of the car getting blasted by a Ford. It twisted the chain off and blew the sprocket into smitherines.

I don't remember what the width has to be, but i'm sure Sprocket specialists could tell you. If you're really in a pinch, I could measure one of mine. My new ones have needed a little polishing in the past though with a die grinder and a scotch brite disc to get the clearance right. I could get you close enough though.

I have run a 45 tooth driven and a 50 tooth driven. I race at Waterford which is a pretty tight track. I've found that on a 1.25" dia primary sprocket, 12 teeth is about the minimum for the chain to wrap around. I'm running a 14/50 right now and the wear seems to be a lot better. Something to think about if you'll need a low gear ratio.

Bob

Bob,
What is involved in "turnng the Martin Sprocket down to 520 spec on a
lathe"? Is it tooth width? Height?
Thanks.

The drive sprockets are martin gears. The gears cost like $12, but need to be turned down to 520 spec on a lathe. That's a pretty cheap operation as well. I know one guy that had his jackshaft splined by micro-belmont to accept standard motorcycle sprockets. I'll probably go that way myself this off season. No more worries about set screws that work themselves loose or spread keyways.
