Subject: [F500] Red Devil front suspension

I need a little Devil help here. My beat up old Red devil (1988) has its
lower front A arm attached strangely. The arms go through a big rod (to
pivot on) and the rod goes through two tubes, one at each end. The tubes
are welded to a tab, with a bolt welded into it, which in turn, bolts
into the frame. I can take the upper arm off, by unbolting, but the
lower arm has its tabs welded to the frame, as well as being bolted to
the frame. My question is "Do the tabs need to be welded to the frame
for stability, or is this something a little crazy that a previous owner
did." The upper arms unbolt very easily, but not the lowers (but then
again, the lowers actuate the "shocks", with their movements) Bill
