My uncle tows his show cars around on an open trailer and does two things to prevent "tow away" theft. He had a local shop fab up a "hitch blocker" out of 1/4 inch plate steel that covers the entire hitch area and is held in place with a piece of 1/4 inch steel that passes through both sides and has a "hockey puck" style lock on it. Then he had the whole thing heat treated, I think it weighs close to 15 pounds... The other thing he has is a Denver Boot that is on the trailer any time it's not being moved. Bulky and cumbersome, but effective.

This topic has potential. What other kind of alarm systems are out there? Are there any prevention systems out there? Like some kind mechanism that would lock a trailer wheel for instance. Let's hear from others who have theft alarm/prevention in place.
