This means that the 493 is still legal for regional in 2004 (for
"competitive evaluation") and is still a candidate for approval in 2005
as previously communicated in fastrack. But it seems that the comp board
has has already gone ahead and recommended the 494 Rave be approved for
2005.

Frankly, I'm a little surprised, based on the messages here and
conversations I've had with many many folks, that the comp boards data
indicated that "the consensus of the F500 community" was for the 494
Rave and not the 493.

Or maybe only a few people actually wrote letters or sent email to the
comp board so they didn't have enough contrary input to offset the "show
of hands" at the Runoffs (at which time the 494 Rave definitely WAS the
consensus).

It's probably not too late if you haven't voiced your opinion to the
comp board... at least on the fate of the 493.

I'm mainly disturbed that they insisted that the 493 be "tested in
competition" for two seasons, but the 494 Rave was just approved without
any "real" comparative testing. I just think it's too early to be
recommending approval of the 494 Rave, especially in light of more
recent technical information which wasn't available to any of us back in
September as Mid-Ohio.
