[F500] engine identification

   You'll want to make sure the manufacturer plate (near the pull 
starter) says it's a Rotax 494:  Then determine if it is a 494 
"Non-Rave" or 494"Rave".  The 494 Non-Rave is the legal engine. When 
looking at the engine look a the area just above the exhuast. The 494 
Non-Rave  has an oblong/oval "opening" with threaded holes on either 
side, just above the exhaust port, with nothing attached.   If there is 
a black plastic "mushroom" like thing bolted to the engine, it's a 
494-Rave and is NOT legal.
  Beyond that distinction, it's tough to tell.
