Largest National forest(Tonto National forest) in entire US starts on NE edge
of Phoenix.
Some is desert with creosote bush and Saguaro cactus, but thousands of acres
 of 80-120 foot high Ponderosa Pine
 (admittedly some are charred, but from reasons other than the sun!)
