Gary,
I just finished my first season racing a F500 at Waterford...what a great
experience. I raced a ITS Datsun last season and it was not nearly as
rewarding. There are three things that make racing a F500 at Waterford a
good experience
1. The cars-other people here can expand a bit more on this topic better
than I can but you will probably not find a faster, more cost effective fun
to drive class of race cars.
2. The track-Waterford is a great place to learn to drive a race car. It
is a very tight course with a short back straight and even shorter front
straight and a whole bunch of different types of corner in-between. There
is plenty of elevation change and different corner camber combinations. You
are always busy and have to be thinking a few corners ahead in order to put
together a fast lap.
3. The other F500 Drivers-Most weekends there are between 10-13 cars on the
grid. Most of the drivers are very clean and courteous to race with.
Nearly all of the drivers will help with and/or loan whatever they can
should your car end up in ill health (which mine did on several occasions
this season). Then there are the social events...every race weekend on
Friday and Saturday nights there is a gathering in the camp ground which
usually involves mass consumption of alcohol and general debauchery. Our
class also seems to the most represented class at the Sunday trophy
presentation as well.
If you are free on Saturday, stop by the track. We are having the Fun Run
where we get to reward our crew by letting them thrash the cars for a few
laps. I will have my Red Devil there and a few other F500s will be there as
well.
Later
Scott

Man I love this web site. I race snocross in the winter and am looking for
summer race fix. I was talking to a guy at the USGP and he told me about
Waterford hills. The F500 class looks like my gig. Can't really cough up the
$
for a sports car and then all the Mods. I race a skidoo 440 rotax. Is the
engine in these cars the same? Would it be an advantage to buy a chassis anf
put my own engine in? I am a total nebie and trying to learn all I can from
the site but am impatient. Is there a good driving school I should attend to
get a jump start? Well I could ask a million questions but I don't want to
take all of your time. Thanks Again, Gary Russell
Gaylord, MI.
