In terms of runoffs invites I think that the best thing the SCCA could do is
decide how many cars they really would like to see in each class, divide
that number amongst the divisions based upon the previous years
participation in each division and then hold back 4 or 5 provisional to be
giving to various sorry individuals who had bad luck but good speed.... and
hence feel they still deserve a place (for some reason this year the club
voted early in the year to allow no provisional entries). For a more
radical idea divide the entries amongst those division who actually send
cars and limit divisions that haven't had cars attend to one until they do.
I'm sure that wouldn't be popular and would cause trouble if the runoffs
ever moved away from good old Central Division...... the sad thing this
year was that there were fewer F500s than the last few years and many
drivers who wanted to be there had to sit and watch, it doesn't seem in the
best interests of the club to be too restrictive when this is being shown on
National TV as an advertisement for the club and its classes. Whatever
happens (99% sure it will be nothing) I will be paying more attention next
year and attending the last race of the year whether I think I need the
points or not............ lesson learned the hard way this year.

If I read the rules correctly, we have the potential for 80 entries per
class (ha!!!).
Perhaps if the club were to "invite"/poll those eligible until it had 40
cars or all eligible (by current points
standards) were tapped out, we could (as a club, not a class) get fuller
fields.
Okay, how to do that? Obviously, the first 5 in each division (plus
Champion) get invites. If any of
them decline, the next eligible person in that division gets the
invitation. If a division gets tapped out?
Good question. Suggestions? Round robin with other divisions? Division
with biggest pool? Lottery?
Also, how would the timing be done? Give the "entrant" how long to respond?
More questions than answers. When would this discussion go to W2W for
further comment? Or
should "we" just put something together and go to the comp board? ("We" as
in "those of you with
a real stake in this, since I don't have a car")
I think the points thing is a separate issue and really didn't mean to
confuse the two. Personally,
I like the idea, but that might be ego speaking :-)
