[F500] clutching questions

Without having a 'official' clutch offset gauge. A method to align Polaris
drive and driven clutches.

Hold a straight edge flush with the back of the drive clutch, bridging
between the drive and driven clutch's. Measure between the clutch facing
edge of the straight edge and the back of the driven clutch. It should be
approximately 5/8 inch. You are measuring to the back face of the clutch
itself, not the back edge of the helix.

If the distance measured on the edge of the driven clutch nearest the drive
clutch, and the distance measured on the edge of the driven clutch furthest
from the drive clutch are equal, then the drive and driven clutches are
properly parallel...if the distances are not equal, then either the
jackshaft or the engine are not properly aligned. (most likely the engine
has in someway twisted on its mountings....since most jackshaft mountings
are 'solidly' fixed by having the bearing carriers being a part of the
frame). The jackshaft and the engine MUST be mounted in parallel planes or
everything will bind and cause premature clutch belt destruction.

For further clutching questions obtain the Aaen Clutch book from Aaen
Performance.....it's the Bible when it comes to CVT clutches and at $10 to
$12 or so, it will save many hours of aggravation.
