Dave:
I just finished pulling the engine out. I'm going to re-seal the
crankcase halves. If that doesn't do it I'm out of ideas. I can't believe
this has been going on ALL season. Thanks for the Kaw offer, but if I
lose all the body weight (me) I need/want, I'd just be too far under the
limit ;>)
Have you ever driven a car with the Rotax? I couldn't believe how much
power Stu's car had. On the straights going to and from the far 180, it
just kept pulling and going faster. In my car, I ran out of top end about
3/4 of the way out to the 180. The AMW does seem to have more low/middle
range power...or more specifically it seems to get to the power band
quicker than the Rotax. I noticed that when accelerating through the
slower of the slaloms, and also after the tight turns on the back side. I
have a hunch that the Kaw is similar to the AMW in that respect and
that's why you've been able to stay with the Rotax's. We both just lose
out when it's a higher speed "road course".
I didn't hear much conversation about Toledo either. I plan on going,
IF IF IF IF IF the engine co-operates. If not, I'll probably cancel Nats
for this year. Right now I'm planning on fixing the engine and testing
it at Peru, the day before Toledo. Scott Nardin told me that Mark Sheehan
has organized a Test/Tune out there on Fri/Sat 8/29 and 8/30. If the car
doesn't run well there, I'll still come to Toledo on my way home and root
for you guys. Good to see you and Cindy. I hope our schedules coincide
more next year and we can swap stories about how much we like our new
Rotax motors!
