All,
In light of Jeremy and Jack's recent accidents I purchased a new type of
Hutchens Device called the "D-Cell" and used it at the Double National
at Roebling. It was easy to use once adjusted the first time and added
less than a minute onto the pre-race preparation. It offers a lot of
stability which helped immensely when cornering and at high speed. No
problem with the reclined seating position.
TOTAL COST = $375!!! Less than one set of tires.....
I won't get back into the car without the device on. SCCA is bound to
mandate the use of some type of head restraint system in the very near
future. I would encourage everyone to think about it now....

Jeremy: Sorry to hear about your incident and wish you a speedy
recovery. I also had a season ending incident in May, but I didn't
crack or break anything. I'm definitely feeling all of my 44 years
while I mend though.
I want to remind everyone reading this that we do participate in
a dangerous sport. I'm looking forward to coming back next season and
playing some more. When I do come back, I will be wearing a neck
restraint device of some sort. Among other injuries, I came out of my
wreck with seven stitches on my chin. How I cut myself, I'll never
know. But I went from 100+ MPH to zero in the blink of any eye, and my
head obviously snapped forward. Like Jeremy, I've been told how
fortunate I am not to have a permanent injury. By the way, those
physics laws are always in force.
There's some good safety equipment out there. Everyone on this
list should consider what it's worth to you.

Hey Folks,
As most of you know, I had my big one about 6 weeks ago
at Grattan. At the same time, the fascist IT people at work put up some
new firewalls so I have not comminucated much. Here are the facts as I
stand. I ended up cracking my C-3 vertabrae and straining various
ligaments and neck muscles. I was VERY lucky as the accident in all
rights should have paralyzed me. Needless to say, under doctors orders,
I am done for at least 12 months while I heal and rehab. Th car still
sits in the trailor and probably will go for sale sometime around the
winter. I plan on driving again as soon as I can, but this will take
some time. For the rest of the season, I will be "consulting" with
Jonathan Dick's runoffs effort.
Thank you to everyone who has wished me well during my
down time. We race with a great group of people. Best of luck to all
those still playing this year and I'll see you at the runoffs. Julie,
do you need a party chair?
Regards and safe fun
Jeremy Swank
