The mighty Novakar felt great! I finally got it dialed in AND figured out how to drive it. You guys are all in trouble now. With a little more practice, I'll be able to do some good I'm thinking. Had a little issue with brake bias Saturday on the warm up lap. Looked pretty silly when I tapped the brakes at 1/2 speed and promptly spun the car out. I jumped the curb in two places. That blew out a body latch and pancaked all 4 pucks. I limped her thru qualifying to start 9th of only 10 cars. Ended up in the dirt on the start of the heat race Saturday afternoon, but worked up to a 5th place grid position for Sunday's 20 lap feature. Unfortunately, the car was down on power. Couldn't turn more than 7200 rpm the whole day.
Worked on the car Sunday morning. Thought I had the power thing in the secondary. Cleaned it again and readjusted it. I was gridded right behind one of the front runners. I made the decision that I was going to hang with the front runners or stuff it in the wall in some spectacular crash. That forced me to do some things with the car that I'd never done before. It was exillerating to say the least! I was out of breath by the mid-point of the race and started forcing myself to breath through all of the corners. I was full throttle in places I used to brake. I never let go of the guy in front of me. I managed to challenge him a couple times, but still couldn't make power. I ran the whole race at 7300 rpm. My team mate Jeff got by, but stuffed it in the wall after avoiding a Vee that was spun in the middle of the track.
Paul Shipp battled it out with my other team mate, Eric Haiss, before having a tire go down at the mid-way point of the race. Carl Grolle (kbs) and I were probably a full backstretch behind and had nothing for him. It was Eric's first win at Waterford after a string of 5 or 6 near wins. The monkey is finally off his back.
Wish more people could have made it out. We had a great time. The weather was a little steamy, but it was a relaxing weekend and a lot of fun.
